Mushroomhead – Beautiful Stories For Ugly Children Album Review

Track 1 – Come On
This song I knew before listening
I really like the riff throughout
The switch both singers is smooth, never over do each other
I enjoyed the bridge
Track 2 – Inspiration
Electronic feel throughout
Interesting they added a electronically edited vocals with the clean and harsh ones as well
Nice riff in the bridge
Felt like a shorter song
Track 3 – Slaughterhouse Road
The other song I knew before listening
Very much like the wailing guitar after the chorus parts
Drums play a big part in the start
Different vocals compliment each other well here
Track 4 – I’ll Be Here
A bit different with the piano beginning
Has a kind of Alice In Chains feel
Sometimes when both vocalists singing together but different lyrics didn’t work that well
The least heavy song so far
Track 5 – Burn The Bridge
Very weird start
Riff throughout is very heavy at times downs vocals out a little
Vocals are fine
Quick paced song for a 5 minute track
Track 6 – Holes In The World
This has a unique vibe compared to the rest of the tracks
Vocals and drums main parts of this one with piano coming and going
I didn’t enjoy this one that much
Track 7 – Harvest The Garden
I like the transition from a very drum heavy start into the guitars coming in then the harsh nut fast vocals coming in after that, once it was all together it fit well.
Consistent through the song no real chances in tempo or rhythm
Track 8 – The Harm You Do
The softest track so far
Liked the guitar solo
Felt more like a filler track to be honest
Track 9 – Your Demise
Liked the tempo change near the middle of the song
Drums make it hard not to headbang to this one
Riff is good
Harsh vocals were a good addition to the clean vocals
Track 10 – The Feel
Media sample like kind of intro
Vocals were layered great in the first minute
The transition from soft piano to heavy riffs was smooth
Track 11 – Darker Days
Liked the intro to this one
This one went back to the heavier feel from the first three songs
Riff is great with double bass drum complimenting it very well
Mostly harsh vocals which i’ll never complain about
Track 12 – Do I Know You?
I’d say the softest song on the record.
A lot of piano and drums with sprinkles of guitar nearer the end
A calmer way to end which i wouldn’t always associate with Mushroomhead
A lot of different styles were explored with this record. Some worked for sure, some not too much. Riff were really good throughout. When they went heavy it was hard not to headbang. Overall the record was fine. i would personally have preferred they didn’t try so much different stuff, i understand on some tracks but on almost every track it becomes a bit much.
Top 3 songs: Come On, Slaughterhouse Road and Darker Days
