Spiritbox – Tsunami Sea Review

Hi Guys, Leo here
Sorry for the absolute lack of album reviews recently!
But I’m back now with a bit of Spiritbox.
They’re a band i’ve come to love over the past few years so i’m buzzing to finally be getting round to this new record. A small disclaimer i have listened to 3 songs that were released as singles before hand.
But anyway enough of me rambling and lets get into the album
Track 1 – Fata Morgana
Very lovely heavy riff to start LOVE THAT
Got that holy roller vibe for sure
The verses are smooth from instrumentals to vocals but the drum beat confused me a bit during the chorus
Big breakdown to finish will always be awesome
Track 2 – Black Rainbow
Quicker paced compared to first track
Vocals drowned out by music but maybe that’s by design
Can’t help but headbang to that chorus and instrumental that follows
Enjoyed the build up to the breakdown
Track 3 – Perfect Soul
1 of the songs i’ve heard before hand
Has a nice flow to it
Ear worm chorus
Very much like the distinction of how it’s a softer song but still heavy in a very spiritbox way if that makes sense similar to secret garden
Great riff
Really nice acapella at the end
Track 4 – Keep Sweet
Electronic trap beat was different for the first verse glad they changed it for the second verse having the drums and bass
Like the sudden impact of the guitar and harsh vocal going into the second half of the first verse
Lovely guitar solo behind the last chorus
Track 5 – Soft Spine
The 2nd song i’d heard before hand
Like how the vocals lead us in
Awesome riff throughout
Another catchy chorus
I think even with the harsh vocals its a song non metal fans would like
I find myself bopping more than headbanging until the breakdown (of course)
Track 6 – Tsunami Sea
I’d say the softest song on the record so far
Flow was really good
Decent bridge. Courtney got to show off her voice at times.
Even with a kind of heavy chorus it had a ballady vibe
Was wondering if we get a very heavy finish but it didn’t
Track 7 – A Haven With Two Faces
Again nicely lead in with the vocals but this time calm vocals to a heavy riff
Changed to calm vocals to harsh and back again seamlessly as Courtney does
Always exciting when it feels like a song is going to end half way through, it’s sparks the curiosity of whats next for the song
What was next didn’t disappoint, continued the great flow of the song but got heavier this those great harsh vocals.
A longer song but never felt out of place
Track 8 – No Loss, No Love
From a long song to a short one but they get a lot in
It feels like such a journey from heavy as f**k to calmer to just a beat and Courtney’s voice.
Such a enjoyable song
A out and out headbanger
The last breakdown is sooo bloody good
The sudden end is pretty cool too because it just leaves you wanting more
Track 9 – Crystal Roses
Electronic trap beat start again not the biggest fan of not going to lie to you
Completely different vibe from everything else so far
I can see it played a lot in like metal clubs
Not my kind of thing but i understand its appeal to people who will enjoy it
Track 10 – Ride The Wave
I was a bit worried at the start it was going to be another, i dont want to say pop-like but majority of electronic beats song but 45 seconds in the riff slams in as the smooth vocal continue but a little drowned out.
Definitely preferred the second verse backing music
Liked the build up to the mega breakdown.
Has that blessed be/ rule of nines style which was great. Kind of felt like a fell for a misdirect.
Track 11 – Deep End
Decent first and second verse, has a nice vibe to it.
It’s in the middle ground off not massively heavy but not too soft.
Has a early 2000s style to it at times
Interesting some acoustic guitar to finish off
Solid way to end the record
Overall Thoughts:
It was a great journey as far as just sitting and listening to it goes, i definitely preferred the first half of the recording compared to the second half excluding No Loss, No Love that is a banger.
I liked the majority of the album, Spiritbox is a band that can pretty muvh do no wrong at the moment, even the softer songs have heavy elements to them which i very much enjoy
Top 3 Tracks:
No Loss, No Love / Soft Spine / Fata Morgana
