Lacuna Coil – Broken Crown Halo Review
Track 1 – Nothing Stands In Our Way
The only song I knew before listening.
I like the calmer verse into heavy chorus.
Mainly female vocals from Cristina Scabbia with male vocals from Andrea Ferro playing more as backing but I did like the harsh vocals every so often.
Chorus is catchy and definitely headbang material.
Good choice of first song on the record.
Track 2 – Zombies
Really like the riff from the beginning used for the verses.
They switched to male vocals for verses and female for chorus.
The harsh vocals during the chorus I don’t think are particularly necessary but I don’t dislike it.
Decent guitar solo.
Drums are great on this one.
Track 3 – Hostage To The Light
Electronic intro was pretty cool.
A more softer song but hard rock elements during the chorus.
Cristina singing alone on this one, she has a such wonderful voice.
Decent song.
Track 4 – Victims
Has a good rhythm to it.
Transition to heavy chorus from lighter verse riff is done really well.
Interesting bridge having Cristina almost shouting instead of singing but works with the message of the song.
Another good song.
Track 5 – Die & Rise
Really cool bass heavy intro followed by catchy drum beats.
Can’t help but bop your head to it.
Very enjoyable to listen to.
Majority of vocal done by Andrea but Cristina does great backing vocals for the chorus.
Very much like the bridge being sang in (I assume) Italian (where the band is from).
Really catchy song.
Track 6 – I Forgive (but won’t forget your name)
Nice rhythm to it
I really like to chorus can see it being an ear worm.
Like the build up to the second chorus.
Seemed to be a fairly quick song.
I very much enjoyed it.
Track 7 – Cybersleep
The bass was the forefront of the verse riff which is cool.
Anther softer song lead by Cristina’s vocals alone.
They used orchestral instruments in the background of the chorus and bridge which was unexpected because of the more electronic feel it started with but it worked for sure.
Track 8 – Infection
Piano used on the intro and outro was something different again.
The whispering before going into separate parts of the verse was a cool touch.
It’s very faint in the background but Cristina’s backing vocals for the chorus are bloody good.
Another enjoyable song.
Track 9 – I Burn In You
Another case of soften verses but this time with Andrea vocals with a heavier chorus with Cristina vocals.
Really nice love song.
Cristina’s range in this one throughout whether at forefront of song or doing backing vocals is so so good.
Liked the heavier bridge with harsh vocals and they didn’t change the vibe of the song.
Outro instrumental definitely a headbanger.
Track 10 – In The End I Feel Alive
Kind of weird intro but transitions into catchy riff for the verse.
Really like the guitar and bass stopping and the drums going alone only for a couple seconds during the verse.
Solid song to have before the last song on the record.
Song switches up for the bridge to a slower, heavier instrumental riff before fading out.
Track 11 – One Cold Day
Softest song on the record so far.
Again had the orchestral instruments in the background which complimented the song well.
Cristina killed it again.
This song had a different vibe to the rest of the record in my opinion but was still very good.
Overall Thoughts:
A very enjoyable listen. Found myself bopping my head for every track even the softer ones. The female to male vocals were pretty consistent with Cristina going alone for more softer songs which works well in my opinion with how fantastic her voice is which I’m aware I said repeatedly but I can’t compliment her enough. The heavier songs hit well and harsh vocals were very good from Andrea.
